Math books from the BFA/USAID ContainerWe were honored that Books For Africa chose PEN Trust to be one of the recipients of a USAID grant and received a forty foot container of brand new books from Pearson Publishing.

These books were all lower primary level and will be distributed to 13 primary, kindergarten and preschools throughout Dodoma and Singida regions. Many of the leveled reader books will also be used in our book bag program. This is the fourth container of books sent to PEN Trust.

In the sorting process schools will receive only three or four copies of an individual book but for other titles, like the Leveled Readers, they will receive at least 30 copies allowing for small group instruction.

Social Studies books in SpanishSocial Studies unfortunately was all in Spanish – we have searched for any schools teaching Spanish in Tanzania and have not found any, so for now the books will gradually be sent back to the US for use in Spanish Immersion programs in Minnesota or for use in the Ecuadorian rainforest schools with Leigh Wold and Solveig Misner’s dental missions there.

Bookcases given awaySince this container was solely new books, there was also a lot of packaging that came along. Individuals were thrilled to receive these sample kits for bookcases in their homes.
